from shop to shop varies quite a bit when it comes to the prep work and masking, but the results of the paint itself were generally decent. Get their best grade paint, which is what I think you're talking about. Easiest thing to do is just look at some of their finished jobs waiting to get picked up. True story: One of the best cars I ever owned was a '79 Nova with that bullet proof Chevy V8 350. I had to put several pounds of Bondo into it right after I got it (for free). Then I took it to a Maaco. I just wanted flat black since I thought it would look cool and it was the cheapest. I kept talking down the manager until he said, "Look kid, the lowest I can go is to do a 'scrub and shoot'. We'll knock the chunks of dirt off first then spray it all black the way you want it." Well, when I got it back, it looked pretty damn good except that they had painted over the license plate black, too! No sh*t, other than that, they did a pretty good job. The car ran great and looked pretty decent too. I cleaned the paint off the license plate when I got home with mineral spirits or something. I can't remember the exact price but it was well under $100. Never had to wax it either since it had no gloss to it at all :c)
